I do realize there are more television productions that are not listed here, notably the many done about the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The television show "Cops" was filmed at the Rally around 1990, "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee" taped two shows at Mount Rushmore in 1998, and there have been many national news stories done within the state. Attempting to keep the list somewhat manageable lead me to leave many of that type of program out. Let me know of significant ones that should be added to the list.

  1. The last part of National Treasure 2 was filmed at Sylvan Lake (CSP) and Mt Rushmore. But you might only be recording movies that were made entirely in SD.

  2. Hi Sherry,
Thanks for reading. Many of the movies on the list are only partially filmed in South Dakota. The list would be considerably shorter if the entire films had to feature our state.

Disney has begun marketing the second National Treasure movie as "2," but at the time it was filmed and when it was released at the theatres it was known as "National Treasure: Book of Secrets." You'll see it in my list under 2007.

  3. Hi Chad,

The 1977 TV Special "Elvis In Concert" was in part filmed in Rapid City at the Rushmore Civic Center on June 21, 1977. It was the first event held there, but more significantly, it was also Elvis Presley's last professionally recorded performance. Don't know if that would be worth including, but it's definitely noteworthy.
