Hill City, S.D. – The inaugural Black Hills Film Festival kicks off Friday, May 14, and runs through Sunday, May 16, 2010. The festival is honoring the 50th anniversary of North by Northwest.
The Alfred Hitchcock thriller will play on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. (MDT) and 2:00 p.m. (MDT) at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The dramatic ending of the film was shot in the Black Hills and Rapid City area. The Black Hills is still home to many “extras” from the film; they are encouraged to attend to share memories and memorabilia.
In addition to these screenings, visitors will have the chance to view forty independent films, some of which are world premieres, and also include an Academy Award® winning documentary. Festival goers will find films made by South Dakota filmmakers and from filmmakers across the world. Films come from Canada, Nepal, Serbia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and throughout the United States.
Films will be shown at three locations including HillCity, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorials.
Festival pass-holders also will enjoy educational workshops with Hollywood and film industry experts, an awards celebration for the “best” of the Black Hills Film Festival and parties throughout the weekend. On Friday night, HillCity is hosting a Student Film Festival featuring student films from across the country.
Festival passes are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.blackhillsfilmfestival.org. They are being sold for $50.00, $75.00, or $100.00. Seating is limited and festival goers are encouraged to get their tickets now. Session passes, good for two to three hours, will be sold on location depending on available seating.
