Dust of War headed to Comic-Con

With its post-apocalyptic roots planted firmly in the science fiction and fantasy genre, few places are better suited for the global premiere of South Dakota-based independent film Dust of War than the massively popular San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). The production team of Dust of War is excited to announce that the action-packed film will premiere on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at SDCC in San Diego, California.

Set in a post-apocalyptic American frontier, Dust of War tells the story of a lone soldier who fends off a brutal warmonger to rescue a girl fated to be the savior of mankind. The film stars genre staples Tony Todd (Candyman, Final Destination), Doug Jones (Hellboy 1 & 2, Pan’s Labyrinth), and Gary Graham (Star Trek: Enterprise, Alien Nation), and is described by director Andrew Kightlinger as “Star Wars on the prairie.”

San Diego Comic-Con is the largest pop culture event in the world, attracting over 130,000 attendees every year to celebrate movies, comics, games, and all things fantasy/sci-fi. In the past few years, SDCC has become a platform for major Hollywood studios to unveil their genre line-ups, and Kightlinger feels the convention is the ideal place for the film’s global premiere.

“The story caters squarely to Comic-Con’s audience in its reverence of 20th century sci-fi/fantasy filmmaking,” Kightlinger raves. “It’s a smashing place for our debut!”
One of the film’s stars, Doug Jones, is no stranger to comic conventions and feels unveiling the film at SDCC will be a special event. “Working on Dust of War was the epitome of why I love independent film,” Jones said. “One of my few favorite young writer/directors, Andrew Kightlinger, had the freedom to make the movie his creative instincts told him to make. My passion will be especially fulfilled when the movie screens among the community of loyal supporters I affectionately call my ‘peeps’ at Comic-Con.”

The cast and crew are not the only people excited about the film’s global premiere. South Dakota Department of Tourism Secretary Jim Hagen is excited about the film’s opportunity to showcase South Dakota at SDCC.

“The Department of Tourism and the South Dakota Film Office are thrilled that this South Dakota-made film is being featured at Comic-Con,” said Hagen. “And we are as excited as Andrew Kightlinger and his team about a premiere at this major film festival.”

The premiere itself is set for Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the San Diego Convention Center. The official time of the screening is to be determined. Further details will be revealed on the film’s website (DustOfWarMovie.com), Facebook page (Facebook.com/DOWmovie, and Twitter feed (Twitter.com/DustOfWar) as the event draws nearer.

Dust of War‘s South Dakota premiere will take place at the South Dakota Film Festival, where it is an Official Selection. The festival takes place September 26-29, 2013 in Aberdeen, SD.
