A big year for Dances With Wolves fans

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the filming of South Dakota's biggest movie - "Dances With Wolves." Several acknowledgements of the event are underway.

South Dakota Magazine has already run a great article about the anniversary in their May/June 2014 issue. Magazine publisher Bernie Hunhoff also visited the South Dakota Public Broadcasting studios to discuss the movie and its lasting impact on the state. Listen here.

The Pierre Capitol Journal covered the Dances effect on central South Dakota in a story by David Rookhuyzen.

Bill Stevens of Pierre, who worked as a vehicle driver during the filming, has a committee formed to create an anniversary celebration in the capitol city July 18-20. There are possibilities of more commemorations in other locations as the year goes on.

"Dances" was filmed almost entirely in South Dakota, with the Triple U Ranch near Fort Pierre and Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills among the well-known locations used.
